Greek islands mentioned in the bible
Greek islands mentioned in the bible are islands where Paul’s journeys left footprints in stone harbours, where letters were written and churches took root by the sea, and where you can still stand on the same quays where early travelers sheltered from the wind.

They are islands where history feels layered and sacred, with quiet chapels, ancient ruins and waterfronts that have seen centuries of pilgrims, traders and fishermen, and that humbling feeling of being on ground named in scripture, still washed by the same Aegean light.
| Island | Description |
|---|---|
| Patmos | Patmos is exiled to the island of Patmos for preaching word of God and testimony about Jesus Revelation 1:9 island of Patmos. |
| Samos | Samos – Sailing from there we came following day opposite Chios next day touched at Samos and stayed at Trogyllium, Acts 20:15 Samos. |
| Samothrace | Samothrace – Therefore sailing from Troas we ran straight course to Samothrace and next day came to Neapolis, Acts 16:11 Samothrace. |

Who it suits and why
Best for travellers who want faith history with beach time. Greek islands mentioned in the Bible suit pilgrims, history lovers and slow cruisers – headed by Patmos for Revelation cave where John wrote Apocalypse and Monastery of Saint John, Rhodes for Paul stopping on way to Jerusalem in Acts 21:1, Kos for Paul in Acts 21:1 near Rhodes, Crete for Paul shipwreck narrative and Titus letter with Fair Havens and Lasea bay, Samothrace for Paul sailing past in Acts 16:11, plus Cyprus nearby for Barnabas and Paul mission, and Malta not Greek but linked in Acts 28. Ideal if you want monasteries, chapels and ancient harbours not just sun loungers.
Less suited to those who want only party islands with no quiet sites. If you want Mykonos super clubs till 4am and Milos beach caves only, Bible islands like Patmos with no airport and quiet nights, and Crete south coast Fair Havens with simple tavernas will feel too pilgrimage focused and slow.
What to keep in mind
Bible islands are Dodecanese and east Aegean with summer ferries. Patmos has no airport, reached by 7 to 9 hour ferry from Piraeus Athens or 2 to 3 hours from Kos or Rhodes with Blue Star, cost 50 to 90 euro, Rhodes and Kos have direct UK flights 4 to 4 hours 30 May to October, Crete Heraklion and Chania have direct UK flights 4 to 4 hours 30 year round, Samothrace 2 hour ferry from Alexandroupoli 1 hour flight from Athens. Cave of Apocalypse and Monastery on Patmos open 8am to 1:30pm and 4pm to 6pm, closed Mondays morning.
On the ground respect pilgrimage rhythm. Book Patmos Skala harbour stays walking distance to cave, Rhodes Old Town for harbour where Paul landed, Kos Town for harbour, Crete south coast Matala or Agia Galini for Fair Havens day trip 1 hour drive, Samothrace for Acts sailing view. Carry modest dress for monasteries covering knees and shoulders, book guides for Revelation site early morning to avoid cruise crowds 10am to 2pm and visit April to June or September to October for mild 20 to 26 degrees and open sites without August heat.
