Diaporos
Diaporos is the tiny, pine-covered island in the Sithonia peninsula of Halkidiki, just off the coast of Vourvourou, about as close to a tropical islet as northern Greece gets. Barely 3 kilometres long, uninhabited and indented with hidden bays, it’s surrounded by water so shallow and clear it turns milky turquoise in the afternoon, with white sand beaches like Myrsini and Kryfto Bay that you only reach by small boat, kayak or SUP.

Most people rent a boat in Vourvourou — no licence needed — and spend the day island-hopping Diaporos with its even smaller neighbours, anchoring for a swim, finding a beach for two, then moving on. There are no beach bars or roads, just pine trees down to the water, cicadas, and the occasional house hidden in the green, which is exactly why Halkidiki locals keep it to themselves.
