Most Unknown Greek islands
Most Unknown Greek islands are for when you want to feel like you’ve truly gone beyond the guidebooks, swapping famous sunsets and packed old towns for sleepy ports, empty stretches of coast, and villages where daily life goes on with hardly a visitor in sight.

This guide compares each island based on name recognition, tourism levels, accessibility, and atmosphere to find places that still feel genuinely off-radar, with enough tavernas and places to stay to make a trip work, not just islands that are hard to reach.

Who it suits and why
Best for travellers who want to be genuinely off the map. These islands suit those who are happy with one village, a couple of tavernas, and days where the plan is simply which cove to walk to. Perfect if you value silence, local life, and having a beach almost to yourself over any kind of scene.
Less suited to those who want comfort, choice, or organisation. If you want hotels with reception and daily service, beach clubs, shopping, or a range of boat trips and guided tours, a larger and more established island will suit you far better.
What to keep in mind
The most unknown islands are the hardest to reach. Almost all have no airport and are served by very few ferries, sometimes only once or twice a week, with crossings of 7 to 12 hours from Athens. In winter months many have no ferry link at all for days at a time, and cancellations due to wind are frequent.
On arrival, infrastructure is extremely basic. Accommodation is usually private rooms and simple studios, not hotels, and there may be no ATM, no petrol station, and only a part-time medical centre. Public transport does not exist, so you will need to bring a vehicle or rent the one or two available. Most beaches are completely unorganised with no sunbeds, shade, or facilities.
