Warm Greek islands
Warm Greek islands are the southernmost and most sheltered islands where temperatures stay highest longest. Crete with Heraklion, Chania and Elounda averaging 26-30C in summer, Rhodes with Lindos and Faliraki among the warmest in the Dodecanese, Karpathos with sheltered south coast bays, Kos with warm sea at Kardamena and Kefalos, Kastellorizo as the easternmost and hottest small island, Kasos and Chalki near Rhodes, Symi with warm harbour microclimate, Crete’s Gavdos as Greece’s southernmost and warmest point, Cyprus-adjacent Kastellorizo, and Lampedusa-adjacent Gavdos, plus Kasos.
Known for extended swims from May to November, with sea temperatures above 24C from June to October on Crete, Rhodes, Kos, Karpathos, Kasos and Kastellorizo, and mild winters around 14-17C. These southern Dodecanese and Cretan islands have more sunshine hours and less Meltemi wind chill than northern islands like Thassos, Samothrace, Skiathos and Corfu which cool earlier in autumn.
