It’s led by Crete, because it has everything in one place. You get shallow sandy beaches in Elounda and Agios Nikolaos, Cretaquarium near Heraklion, water parks at Hersonissos, easy boat trips to Spinalonga, and little e-bike and kayak tasters that kids can do with you. Rhodes is brilliant too, with Faliraki water park, Anthony Quinn Bay for snorkelling that even small kids love, glass-bottom boat trips from Lindos, and the old town walls that feel like a real castle adventure. Paros and Naxos are perfect if you want calm and active, with flat beaches like Pounda, Golden Beach and Agios Georgios for windsurf tasters from age eight, pony rides inland, coastal walks to Kolymbithres caves, and small boats you can hire without a licence. What to keep in mind
Kids activities in Greece are all about shallow water, short transfers, and staying near both beach and harbour. Most of these islands have direct UK flights from May to October, around three hours ten to four hours thirty, or a quick hop via Athens, and ferries from Piraeus are usually two to nine hours and 40 to 95 euro. May to June and September to early October is the sweet spot. You get 22 to 28 degrees, sea temps of 22 to 25, calm mornings for boats and paddles, and quieter beaches with space for games. July and August is still great for kids but it’s hotter, 30 to 35 degrees midday, so plan water parks and boat trips for morning and keep beach time to early and late. On the ground, base yourself where you can walk to the beach and the boat. Elounda or Chania in Crete for aquarium, water parks and easy boat trips, Faliraki or Lindos in Rhodes for water park and snorkel bays, Parikia or Golden Beach in Paros and Agios Georgios or Plaka in Naxos for flat beaches and windsurf schools, Nidri or Vasiliki in Lefkada and Kassiopi or Sidari in Corfu for kayaks, horses and day sails, and Adamas or Pollonia in Milos for cave boats. A kids kayak or SUP session is usually 25 to 40 euro, a half day small boat with skipper 250 to 450 euro, water park entry 25 to 35 euro, and Cretaquarium around 12 euro for kids and 16 euro for adults. Bring water shoes, rash vests, sun hats, a dry bag for phones, and book boat days and water parks a day ahead in August. Keep transfers under thirty minutes, plan one activity in the morning and free swim time after lunch, and go in early June or mid September when you get warm seas, soft light and empty beaches rather than full August crowds and queues.
