Party Greek islands

Party Greek islands

Party Greek islands are islands where the day slides straight into night, where beach clubs pump from mid-afternoon, where harbour bars fill with backpackers and sunset cocktails turn into late-night dancing, and where you can find everything from big-name DJs to low-key boat parties drifting along the coast.

They are islands where energy never really dips, with neon-lit alleys, open-air clubs overlooking the sea, cheap shots and sunrise swims, and that electric, hedonistic buzz of thousands of people chasing the same summer high together.

Who it suits and why

Best for travellers who want beach by day and dancing till late. These islands suit night owls, groups and music lovers who live for DJs, bars and big events – headed by Mykonos for Super Paradise and Paradise beach clubs and Cavo Paradiso, Ios for Mylopotas and Far Out Beach Club, Zakynthos for Laganas strip, plus Kos at Kardamena, Crete at Malia and Hersonissos, Corfu at Kavos and Rhodes at Faliraki. Ideal if you want pool parties, boat parties, famous DJs and a crowd that never sleeps.

Less suited to those wanting peace, early nights and empty beaches. If you want quiet coves, family tavernas, no queues and no loud music after midnight, or you dislike late flights, premium drink prices and busy July to August crowds, these party islands will feel too loud and too much.

What to keep in mind

Party season is intense and expensive. Peak is mid June to early September when headline DJs play Mykonos and Ios, beach clubs charge 20 to 80 euro entry with a drink and sunbeds on Paradise can be 40 euro plus, while Laganas, Malia and Kavos have bar crawls and pub streets that start at 11pm. All have direct UK flights of 3 to 4.5 hours May to October with Mykonos and Ios reached by ferry 3 to 6 hours from Athens or Santorini.

On the ground plan for heat, cost and noise. Book clubs and beds 2 days ahead in August, carry ID for 18 plus entry, wear trainers for cobbled town bars, drink water between drinks as temperatures stay above 30 degrees at night, and choose a hotel 10 minutes walk back from the strip if you want sleep. Taxis are limited and pricey after 1am so use hotel shuttles or pre booked transfers.
