Who it suits and why
Best for travellers who want top-level service and design. These islands suit those who value five-star resorts, private villas with staff, infinity pools overlooking the sea, fine dining, and being looked after from transfer to turndown. Ideal when you want comfort, privacy, and everything organised for you.
Less suited to those who want simple, budget, or very local travel. If you prefer family-run studios, unorganised beaches, and low-key tavernas where locals eat, or you want to keep costs down, a more traditional island will feel more authentic and better value.
What to keep in mind
Luxury comes at a premium and is limited in supply. The best suites and villas with private pools book out 10 to 12 months ahead for July and August, and high-season rates can be three to four times higher than May and October, with extra charges for private transfers, beach service, and restaurant bookings.
Many luxury islands are still seasonal and spread out. Direct UK flights usually only run April to October, villages can be steep with many steps and no car access, and you will need a car, driver, or boat to reach the best beaches. Spas, beach clubs and fine-dining tables all need to be reserved well in advance in peak months.
