Less suited to those who want classic easy beach time. If you want long sandy stretches with sunbeds and service, big resorts with pools, and lots of restaurants and bars to choose from, a more mainstream island will be more comfortable.
What to keep in mind
Exotic usually means remote and seasonal. Many have no international airport and rely on ferries of 6 to 12 hours from Athens with only a few sailings a week, or a domestic flight plus a small boat. UK connections are indirect outside July and August, and high winds can disrupt travel.
Facilities are limited and rugged. Accommodation tends to be small guesthouses and villas rather than large resorts, and hire cars, taxis and ATMs may only be in the main port. Many beaches are unorganised with no shade or bar, some are pebbly, volcanic or require a hike or boat to reach, and shops and pharmacies can close early.
