Greek islands with rock climbing

Greek islands with rock climbing

Greek islands with rock climbing are islands where the coastline turns vertical, where sun-warmed limestone and granite walls rise above coves and olive groves, where routes start minutes from the harbour and end with views of blue in every direction.

Greek islands to avoid Mosquitos

They are islands where rock climbing settles into island rhythm, with dawn crags, sea-breeze rests, afternoons of swimming the pump out and tavernas full of chalk-dusted hands, and that gripped, glowing, deeply satisfied feeling of climbing by the sea.

Who it suits and why

Best for travellers who pack chalk with swim kit. Greek islands with rock climbing suit sport climbers, sea cliff belayers and boulderers – headed by Kalymnos for 4000 bolted routes 5a to 9a, Grande Grotta tufas and Odyssey cave, Telendos island boat crags, Crete for Agiofarago gorge, Kapetaniana south limestone and Plakias sandstone, Lefkada for Kathisma and Egremni coastal walls sea view, Karpathos for Finiki sea cliffs and Agios Nikolaos new bolts, Milos for Sarakiniko white lava bouldering and Fyriplaka beach crag, Kythira for Kapsali sea arch and granite boulders, Paros for Kolymbithres granite boulders sheltered from meltemi, plus Thassos for marble crags and beach bouldering. Ideal if you want 10 to 30m bolted pitches, shade by hour and swim after send.

Less suited to those who want flat beach bed to bar only with no rope. If you want Mykonos Paradise Super Paradise till 6am and Malia 50 bars till 4am, climbing islands with 6am north face starts, 80m rope, 20 quickdraws, helmet for loose rock and stick clip will feel too early and technical.
